Each lesson begins with 10 minutes of yoga to help connect the mind and body.
Yoga facilitates all kinds of different movement, including cross lateral movement. Cross lateral movements are those in which arms and legs cross over the midline of the body. The left side of the brain controls the right side and the left brain controls the right side of the brain. When arms and legs cross the body's midline, both sides are forced to communicate. This integration of both sides of the brain enhances learning. (Flynn 2013)
Cross-lateral movements - movements that cross the midline of the body increases blood flow in all parts of the brain, making it more alert and energized for stronger and more cohesive learning. Cross-lateral movements also unify the cognitive and motor regions of the brain while stimulating the productions of neurotrophins that increase the number of synaptic connections in the brain. (Schiller 1999)
